Work Experience Program
The Hilgartner Training Work Experience Program will offer trainees, trainers, and employers a practical training experiences.
Levels
The program will have three scaffolded levels:
- Observation
- Practicum
- Internship
Each of these levels will involve the trainee, trainer, and employer more fully with each step up. Equally, each of these levels will have varying amounts of remote study about safe and productive practices and workplace training in a specified vocation.
Observation
At the Observation level, trainees will learn about basic work requirements, pre-requisite skills and knowledge for the vocation, health and safety, and work etiquette. Trainers will onboard employers on how to conduct trainees observations in a manner that is safe and conducive.
Practicum Level
At the Practicum level, trainees will perform basic work for the employer in the vocation. Having completed the Observation level, the trainee will have the required skills and knowledge to complete the basic work and learn more while on site. This practicum will take place over a designated period with work experience being conducted a reasonable, specified amount of hours or days a week. The trainer will help the employer evaluate the trainee's performance and readiness based on the practicum.
Internship Level
Having completed the practicum level, a trainee may make and arrangement with the trainer and the employee to work a period of length at a basic job. The trainer will work with the employee to make an evaluation of the trainee that could be added to the trainee's portfolio.
